Holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds

Holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds

Holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds offer perfect accommodation for a getaway-from-it-all break. The rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds are renowned for their spectacular skies and breathtaking views. They are the backbone of Lincolnshire, a line of chalk hills stretching for 40 miles. They rise to over 500 feet - the highest area of land in eastern England between Yorkshire and Kent and classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The countryside is criss-crossed by lanes which lead to pretty hamlets, and valleys cut by streams and rivers.

Once settled in your choice of our holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds this rural area invites exploration. Nestling on the eastern edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, Louth is justifiably called 'capital of the Wolds'. This historic market town still retains a natural charm, with its narrow, winding streets, splendid Georgian houses and a thriving market. Dominating the town and visible from miles around the 15th-century parish church is claimed to be the tallest in England. Although located in a quiet rural setting it is still easy to visit beautiful beaches, historic castles, fun theme parks, exclusive golf and fishing, or a day at the horse races - all within 20 miles.

Horncastle is a market town of great charm. Situated on the banks of the rivers Waring and Bain the town contains some very attractive buildings including the King's Head - a picturesque thatched pub noted for its wonderful floral displays. Horncastle has been dubbed the 'Best Antiques Town', well known for dozens of antiques shops packed with curiosities and furniture from bygone ages to browse at your leisure.

Nearby is Tattershall Castle - a Lincolnshire landmark. A masterpiece of medieval brick architecture, the castle rises 100 feet above the Lincolnshire countryside. Built in the 15th-century to impress and dominate, which it certainly does, it is a superb fortified tower with elaborate brick vaulting, stone fireplaces and a roof-top courtyard and battlement walkway providing magnificent views with Boston 'Stump' and Lincoln Cathedral visible on clear days.

Walking and cycling are popular activities with those staying at our holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds. The network of footpaths and bridleways offers a range of walking to suit all ages and abilities, and the abundance of quiet country lanes is ideal for cyclists, with good local guidebooks available.
